What Do We Do?
Up to six students participate in training courses of 2 - 4 years duration. Courses are largely based around horse-related activities including riding therapy, although no previous experience with horses or riding is necessary. However, a willingness and motivation to learn and improve one's skills through contact with horses and like-minded people is central to the success of the individual.
With the small student group and good staff:student ratio, flexibility is possible when developing individual programmes, taking into account personal needs and goals, and considering future work or living situations. Despite the equine emphasis, particular attention is paid to life and social skills through 'real-life' experiences which the student will continue to meet on leaving the Venture.
Students live with trained and experienced houseparents in the Lodge, a large Swedish-style building situated within the Farm. Each individual has their own bedroom, with communal living, dining and kitchen areas where daily domestic chores are shared and students relax in their free time. The adjacent lecture room reflects a similar style and is available for students to continue their work beyond the timetabled activities, if they choose, or to use as a games room at weekends.
